Who is the father of Mixed Martial Arts?

Last week I’ve been busy watching documentary movies, searching the Internet and reading blogs about the life of a well-known legendary martial artist of all time and considered the father of mixed martial arts or MMA that’s why I haven’t got a chance to write a blog until I write this. There is a lot to talk about this man and I somehow I don’t know where to start as of this writing. I love to watch Kung Fu movies from China, Karate from Japan and Muay Thai from Thailand etc. As a kid, I dreamt of becoming a karate kid, a ninja, a kung fu master, or learn any form of self-defense because I find it cool and amazing just like in the movies but to be honest there is a lot more to it, back in the old days I also joined and enrolled to a martial arts academy where I learned basic forms, self-discipline and meditate. Ops that is supposed to be a secret oh well let’s get back to the chase. My topic today is about the life of a legend in martial arts, started Kung Fu movies, everbody’s favorite of all time and founder of Jeet Kune Do “The Way of Intercepting Fists” no other than Bruce Lee.

According to Wikipedia, Bruce Lee (born Lee Jun-fan; 27 November 1940 – 20 July 1973) was a Chinese American and Hong Kong actor, martial arts instructor, philosopher, film director, film producer, screenwriter, and founder of the Jeet Kune Do martial arts movement. He is widely considered by many commentators, critics, media and other martial artists to be the most influential martial artist of modern times, and a cultural icon. Full story click here.

I get interested when I visited my brother in his apartment and found his collections of Bruce Lee’s DVD movies and documentaries. At first, I ignored my brother’s obsession of him, his posts about him on his Facebook’s wall and all that until I found myself on his position. I will call it Bruce Lee craze for a week, while we are watching, me and my brother talked a lot about him lately, me asking many questions about what he know of him and things that I don’t know about him, the funny part where my brother demonstrates some basics that he learned by merely watching, I guess that’s a good bonding time for us. There are things that I don’t know before about Bruce Lee that I wanted to share, one good example is that he won the 1958 Crown Colony Cha-Cha Championship in Hong kong during his high schools years. Yes, you heard it right, before he got interested in becoming a martial artist. There is a blog that I read or from a documentary film I really can’t remember, anyway, in exchange of learning kung fu he promised his masters that he will teach them on how to dance cha-cha, funny isn’t it but it’s true, well that is what they say.

Early this year, “The Green Hornet (2011)” was release in the Philippines, stars Seth Rogen as Britt Reid/The Green Hornet and Jay Chou as the sidekick/bodyguard named Kato. The movie is about two masked crime fighting team and their technologically advanced car the “Black Beauty”.

Later this month, I found out that Bruce Lee is the first one to portrayed the role of a similarly masked partner and confidant Kato that debuted his U.S. Television series starring Van Williams as the Green Hornet/Britt Reid aired in 1966. Amazing isn’t it, yeah I am amazed the first time I heard it too from my brother, thanks to the likes of YouTube and Google we can watch old clips from the past.
