The Silent Pal recommends “The Silent House” (Film)
The Silent House (2010)
La Casa Muda (Original Title)
The plot is based on a true story that happened in the late 40′s in a small village in Uruguay.
The film focuses on Laura (Florencia Colucci) and her father Wilson (Gustavo Alonso) arrive at a cottage off the beaten path in order to repair it since its owner Nestor (Abel Tripaldi) will soon put the house on sale. They will spend the night there in order to start the repairs the following morning.
Everything seems to go on smoothly until Laura hears a sound that comes from outside and gets louder and louder in the upper floor of the house. Wilson goes up to see what is going on while she remains downstairs on her own waiting for her father to come down.
The film is supposedly inspired by real events that took place in the 1940s, but no information can be found to authenticate the claims. La casa muda focuses on the last seventy-eight minutes, second by second, as Laura tries to leave the house unharmed and discovers the dark secret it hides.

Here we go again, Hollywood remake of La Casa Muda?
Wait, wait, wait. So I’ve heard or read from movie review blogs rather that Hollywood had a remake of this film starring Elizabeth Olsen and directed/produced by Open Water duo Chris Kentis and Laura Lau. The release date is on March 9th, 2012 to U.S. Theaters and hopefully in the Philippines.
This remake evolves around a young woman named Sarah (Olsen) who is visiting her family’s dilapidated lake house along with her father, when they inexplicably find themselves under attack by mysterious figures who have somehow managed to seal up the building, with the unsuspecting father-daughter pair inside.
With no electricity and no means to contact the outside world, an increasingly terrified and battered Sarah attempts to escape, even as she descends into an increasingly unhinged state of mind.
What Silent Pal thinks?
I think I would rather watch the original film created in Uruguay even though the language is in Spanish at least there are sub-titles and the idea re-created again by Hollywood filmmakers.
Are they being lazy now to create such a film? In my humble opinion, they are always on the look out for foreign films especially those on low-budget and then they will create a remake of it just to earn from it, well, that’s the nature of film industry.
I don’t like to watching horror, suspense or stalker movies but because my wife prefer it than romance, action or drama I get used to it and when I am looking for a film for us to watch during our bonding time I’ll always go for horror films.
Upon checking on the ratings in some movie review blogs like IMDB.com & rottentomatoes.com, La Casa Musa also known as The Silent House got high ratings so I think this is one movie to watch for both of us and we hope they meet our expectations. Having said that, I still want to watch The Silent House 2012 remake for comparison and better understanding of the story.
